A Daily Prayer for Men
Lord, I pray that all I do as a man, husband, father, son, brother, and worker, in this day which you have given me glorifies you. Thank you for your mercies that begin this next 24 (Lam 3:22-23). Grant me the foresight and wisdom (over 200 verses) to seek Your kingdom first, and Your righteousness and I praise You and thank you for adding all things to me that are needed this day (Matt 6:26, 31-33, 2 Cor 9:8). Create in me the desire to remind myself of Deuteronomy 6:5 that I am to love you with my heart, soul, and might (Matt 22:37) and to love my neighbor as myself (Matt 22:39).
I want to walk in a manner worthy of the calling upon me, with humility, patience, and love (Eph 4:1) and though all things are lawful, not all are helpful, so I pray that I not be dominated or consumed by anything outside of Your will for my life (John 7:17, 1 Cor 6).
I seek Your guidance and presence that I be quick to hear, and slow to speak (Psalm 34:13, James 3, James 1:19-20). I seek Your grace and presence that my anger, if stoked is righteous, purposeful, and produces helpful and teachable moments that end in righteousness (Eph 4:26, Rom 14:19).
I pray that I have the strength in my body and mind to continue to work hard and find my bed each night, tired and fulfilled in my work to provide for my family and the work I do as You have commanded (2 Thess 3:10, Rom 12:11) …never ceasing to desire my wife and only my wife and making no provision for my flesh outside of Your will for our marriage (Heb 13:4, Rom 13:14, 1 Cor 10:13, Sol 7:10).
I pray Lord, that as iron sharpens iron (Prov 27:17) and whoever walks with the wise becomes wise (Prov 13:20), that I would find, be led to, or they be led to me … mature men who are committed to you and committed to true discipleship (1 Cor 2:6, 1 Cor 14:20, Phil 3:15). Where are they? The real ones? Where is Your remnant?
Lord, I pray for myself, that in whatever way, a man who is a man (Gen 1:26-27, Gen 2), in every sense of Your creation and purpose of man (2,683 references to “man”), can be a light unto the world as a city on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matt 5:14). I pray that I become that man daily (1 Thess 5:17).
I pray I may be an example to my children and those You have placed in my life regardless of their age and situation (1 Cor 13:11, Luke 18:15-17). Each one is different, but Your word is never changing (Matt 5:18, Matt 24:35), and their lives require the discipline (Hebrews 12:11, Eph 6:4) and instruction of Your word… grant me the ability to find those moments where I may teach Your word to them in whatever manner presented (2 Tim 3:16, Eph 6).
And lastly dear Lord, on this day once again, I pray that I work and play according to Your will, teaching and speaking from Your authority to bring You the glory (Matt 5:16, 1 Cor 10:31, John 7, Col 3).
In the name of Jesus, Amen
